Why we changed our tourist brand from People Make Glasgow to Visit Glasgow

The People Make Glasgow brand has been in place for over 10 years and is hugely successful as a city brand. It is still much loved by everyone in the city.

In 2023, our parent company Glasgow Life conducted some brand research. They tested the People Make Glasgow brand on audiences both in the city and across Scotland. This is what they found:

• Over 80% of Glasgow-based respondents are aware of the brand.
• Over 70% of respondents agreed with the statement that People Make Glasgow.
• Less than 50% of people outside of Glasgow were aware of the brand.
• Only 12% of respondents would go to peoplemakeglasgow.com for tourist information.

It was also found that People Make Glasgow doesn't translate for visitors from overseas. It also isn't a recognised search term for tourism information.

How will the Visit Glasgow brand be used?

As a result of the above research, we developed a Visit Glasgow brand to sit alongside the People Make Glasgow brand. Visit Glasgow promotes Glasgow to audiences out with the city. It better reflects what our tourism website offers, what potential visitors will search for, and aligns us to our key competitors.

Will the People Make Glasgow brand still exist?

Yes! The People Make Glasgow city brand will be used to promote activity to audiences within the city.

You will still see People Make Glasgow displayed proudly across the city. People Make Glasgow continues to be the brand that makes our citizens proud to be Glaswegian and it will welcome tourists into the city.

When people visit Glasgow, they discover that the people really do make Glasgow.
