Exchange Talk + : Romantic National Song Network

Exchange Talk + : Romantic National Song Network

This lecture recital will focus on the national songs of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales during the romantic era with performances from RCS students throughout. The Romantic National Song Network, funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, is based at the University of Glasgow. It has brought together scholars working in literature and language, musicology, history, history of the book, and performance history to explore the national songs published with music across the British Isles between 1750 and 1850. This was a period of great political upheaval mapped by a surge in the creation and performance of songs from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and by the arrival of a new kind of 'British' song culture. As the concluding event of this two-year network, this Knowledge Exchange + event brings together young singers from the four nations and scholars from the network to breathe life into the culture and sound of British Romantic National Song.
