Late Night Studio Jazz: Square One with Andy Middleton

Late Night Studio Jazz: Square One with Andy Middleton

Bringing together two generations of musicians from very different backgrounds, emerging Scottish quartet Square One continue their international partnership with leading Vienna-based American saxophonist Andy Middleton. In March 2018, Andy and Square One performed a tour of Scotland and recorded an album, entitled ‘Double Bind’, which will be launched at this concert.

Andy Middleton is a veteran of the New York scene, who’s 30-year career has seen collaborations with world leaders in jazz. Meanwhile, Square One is a collective of Scotland’s finest emerging jazz talent and features three winners of the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year. The music that Square One and Andy perform constitutes a meeting of American and European jazz styles – from Andy’s roots in the New York scene to music informed by modern folk, world music and progressive rock.
