Top 10 outdoor bars and restaurants in Glasgow city centre

Many of the city's best bars and restaurants have outdoor spaces to enjoy food and drinks al fresco. Here are just some of the top outdoor spots to eat and drink outside in the heart of the city centre.


1. The Locale

The family-run bar and diner serving craft beer, cocktails, burgers, fried chicken and tacos has its very own yard out the back. The Locale has a fully-heated stretch tent, meaning that drinks and food can be enjoyed outdoors all year-round. Visit The Locale's website to book at table.

2. Sloans

One of the city’s oldest pubs, Sloans, has reopened its lovely courtyard. Head through the archway from Argyle Street and discover a quaint outdoor dining and drinking spot in their fully-heated and covered courtyard, complete with fairy lights and murals. 3. PLATFORM The Lane

Popular street food market, Platform, have opened a brand new outdoor space, PLATFORM The Lane. Expect excellent dishes from contemporary street food vendors - visit platformgla.co.uk for information on menus and to book a table.

4. Ardnamurchan pop-up

Ardnamurchan's new pop-up beer garden on Hope Street is serving food and drink from 12-10pm. The menu includes the best from Scotland’s land and shore, including the likes of Shetland Mussels with Sourdough and Campbeltown Goats Cheese Tart, with the drinks menu including wines, beers and a great selection of whisky. 5. Mackintosh at the Willow

The historic Mackintosh at the Willow has opened a rooftop terrace where they serve nibbles and drinks. Visit www.mackintoshatthewillow.com to book a table at this south-facing suntrap, which includes views of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed chimney - a hidden architectural treasure! 

6. Glasgow Beer Works

Have a pint with the Big Yin! Based beneath John Byrne’s Billy Connolly mural just off Osborne Street, Glasgow Beer Works are open Thursday – Sunday from 12-10pm. They have a new drinks menu and food from Arizona-style Mexican food Rafa’s Diner, which serves up burritos, nachos and more. You can make a booking on their website.

7. The Social

Set in the spacious Royal Exchange Square, The Social has a pretty beer garden complete with stylish furniture, floral arrangements and parasols. Known for their experimental cocktails (with a great mocktail menu too!), The Social has a huge drinks menu, with food options including sharer plates and pizzas. Visit The Social online to book.

8. The Dam

The pedestrianised cobbled streets of the Merchant City are ideal for outdoor dining and drinking with many options, including The Dam on Brunswick Street. Billed as ‘no-frills, all fun’, The Dam’s menu includes burgers, club sandwiches and loaded fries with a great range of beers on tap and bottled - check available timeslots at www.thedamglasgow.com.

Enjoy a pot of mussels with a cold beer in the beautiful Merchant City. Right in the heart of it all is Bier Halle who has been running a successful outdoor terrace on Gordon Street for years. Prepped with heaters, lighting and brand new tents for full rain cover, Bier Halle offers a great city centre outdoor spot, offering up a huge range of beers and 2-4-1 pizzas.
