Top 10 outdoor bars and restaurants in Glasgow city centre

Many of the city's best bars and restaurants have outdoor spaces to enjoy food and drinks al fresco. From the historic streets of Merchant City to the spacious city squares to brand new pop-ups down cobbled lanes, there are plenty of spots to enjoy eating and drinking outside in the heart of the city centre. Here are just some of the best outdoor spots to check out.

1. Native Glasgow ApartHotel and The Gate

For four days only, you can enjoy cocktails with stunning rooftop views at a 'pop-up penthouse party'. From May 13-16 (12pm-10pm), east neighbourhood bar, The Gate will take over the penthouse terraces at Native Glasgow, which are based just off George Square in the former Anchor Line Shipping Company Headquarters. Register here for updates on tickets.

2. Sloans

On of the city’s oldest pubs, Sloans, has reopened its lovely courtyard. Head through the archway from Argyle Street and discover a quaint outdoor dining and drinking spot in their fully-heated and covered courtyard, complete with fairy lights and murals. 3. PLATFORM The Lane

Popular street food market, Platform, have opened a brand new outdoor space, PLATFORM The Lane. There is no need to book for their outdoor tables, which will operate on a first-come-first-served basis, with food and drink served until 10pm. 4. Ardnamurchan pop-up

Ardnamurchan's new pop-up beer garden on Hope Street is serving food and drink from 12-8pm. The menu includes the best from Scotland’s land and shore, including the likes of Shetland Mussels with Sourdough and Campbeltown Goats Cheese Tart, with the drinks menu including wines, beers and a great selection of whisky. 5. Mackintosh at the Willow

6. Glasgow Beer Works

Have a pint with the Big Yin! Based beneath John Byrne’s Billy Connolly mural just off Osborne Street, Glasgow Beer Works are open Thursday – Sunday from 12-10pm. They have a new drinks menu and food from Arizona-style Mexican food Rafa’s Diner, which serves up burritos, nachos and more. You can make a booking on their website.

7. The Social

Set in the spacious Royal Exchange Square, The Social has a pretty beer garden complete with stylish furniture, floral arrangements and parasols. Known for their experimental cocktails (with a great mocktail menu too!), The Social has a huge drinks menu, with food options including sharer plates and pizzas. Visit The Social online to book.

8. The Dam

The pedestrianised cobbled streets of the Merchant City are ideal for outdoor dining and drinking with many options, including The Dam on Brunswick Street. Billed as ‘no-frills, all fun’, The Dam’s menu includes burgers, club sandwiches and loaded fries with a great range of beers on tap and bottled - check available timeslots at www.thedamglasgow.com.

9. Mharsanta

Enjoy a pot of mussels with a cold beer in the beautiful Merchant City. Mharsanta have reopened outdoors, accommodating bookings of 6 people from 3 households from noon-10pm. Their outdoor menu (view the menu online here), includes Scottish delights, such as Stornoway black pudding fritters and prime Scottish steak burgers topped with Ramsay of Carluke bacon & Scottish cheddar. 10. Bier Halle

Right in the heart of it all is Bier Halle who has been running a successful outdoor terrace on Gordon Street for years. Prepped with heaters, lighting and brand-new tents for full rain cover, Bier Halle offers a great city centre outdoor spot, offering up a huge range of beers and 2-4-1 pizzas. People are encouraged to book in advance at Bier Halle's website, with a small percentage of walk-ins available daily.
