“Best transport museum I've seen in the UK. Interactive screens with videos and pictures that summed up tales of survival, bravery and even plain stupidity...and it’s FREE!” That was the reaction of one visitor to the Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum, voted 2013 European Museum of the Year.
When visitors step through the great glass doorway, they enter a vast free-flowing space, split over two floors and showcasing more than 3,000 objects from trams, trolley buses and vintage cars to motorbikes and bicycle.
The majority of the objects fall into one of the museum’s 150 ‘story displays’, which tell the personal stories behind the objects and introduce hundreds of individuals: from bicycle-makers and tram conductresses to shipyard workers and fire fighters.
The Tall Ship, which is now moored at Riverside - a move that reinforces The Tall Ship’s position as a major visitor draw and an icon of Glasgow’s shipbuilding heritage.
