Frank Brangwyn in World War I: Art in Aid of Blind Soldiers and Sailors

This display focuses on a set of lithographs created in World War I by artist Frank Brangwyn to raise money for the newly established St Dunstan’s Hostel for Blind Soldiers and Sailors in London. The prints tell a moving story of a young soldier going to war, being blinded and hospitalised, and then recuperating and learning a new trade. Brangwyn was not an official war artist, but fundraising projects like this were a way for him to contribute towards the war effort. The set was sold in a variety of forms, priced to suit different budgets. In this way, he also encouraged others to do something to help the war effort.
