Celtic Connections 2019 With Waterstones - Songwriting Between Prison & Community

Waterstones is excited to be working with Celtic Connections 2019 and co-hosting some of their great programme of talks. The talk will be introduced by Alison Urie who leads Vox Liminis -- the third sector organisation that hosts Distant Voices -- and Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow) who, as the project’s Creative Lead, guided the production of our recent album ‘Not Known at this Address’. Louis will discuss and perform some of the songs written in the project, explaining and illustrating how the collaborative songwriting process takes place. The event will also feature a panel discussion convened by Kim Long (Green Party Councillor In Glasgow and spokesperson on Criminal Justice) and involving some participants in Distant Voices, including Gordon McKean, Fergus McNeill and Jo Syme, whose collective expertise arises from having been through the system, working in it and studying it – and who have used these experiences in co-writing songs in the project.
